How we handle personal information under POPIA.
Who we are
Global Connections organises markets and community events in the Western Cape, South Africa. We are the responsible party for the personal information described below. You can reach us at info@globalconnections.co.za.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address and the display name you choose.
- Confirmations that you are 18 or older and that you accept our terms.
- Content you post: classifieds, missed connections, directory listings and guest posts.
- Messages you send through our on-site inbox.
- Email addresses submitted to our newsletter, vendor list or contact form.
- Basic technical information needed to keep the site running and secure.
Why we collect it
We use this information to run the site, publish the content you ask us to publish, moderate posts, let members contact each other without exposing email addresses, and, where you have given separate consent, to send you event news.
What we never publish
We do not show your email address, your account identifier or your contact details on public classified or missed-connection pages. Missed connections are anonymous in public.
How long we keep it
- Classifieds and missed connections expire 30 days after posting and are removed from public view.
- Account details are kept while your account is open.
- Newsletter and vendor-list sign-ups are kept until you ask to be removed.
- Moderation records are kept for as long as needed to keep the community safe.
Your rights and deletion
You may ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, withdraw marketing consent at any time, and ask us to delete your account and personal information. Use the "Delete my account and data" button in My account, or email info@globalconnections.co.za. We will respond within a reasonable period. You may also complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.
Sharing
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with the service providers who host this site and its database, and where the law requires us to.
